Advice and FAQs
Buying a topper online can be a daunting experience. Not everyone has the option to try a topper on in a wig shop or salon so we have compiled a list of helpful tips and recommendations to assist you in your choice.
So what is a topper?
Think of a topper as a mini wig. It is designed to be worn on "top" of your head and help with covering thinning, breakage or bald patches.
Toppers are almost always clipped in with snap clips, sometimes called pressure clips.
If you have breakage/damage caused by traction alopecia then you may wish to explore other options to attach the topper such as mesh integration, glue or alternatively choose a full wig to protect our bio hair.
What are the base size options?
Toppers come in different sizes and which one you choose will depend on the area you wish to cover.
E.g if you have a thinning area of 4x4inch approx, you should aim for a topper of 5x5inch or larger as a general rule. This will allow for a healthy amount of hair to clip in topper in at the edges.
If you have a large area or various different patches then you may need a much larger base.
It is always best to measure the area you wish to cover.
If you do not have a tape measure we have some available in store.
What are the densities?
We usually stock densities 110%-150%. This refers to how "thick" the topper is. Higher density generally means more hair per sqare inch.
Keep in mind a 140% topper that is 7x7inch base will likely have more hair than a 150% topper on a 5x5inch base. Density doesn't always mean more or less hair overall.
What are the different types of topper that you offer?
We have silk base toppers, silk and weft base toppers, silk and lace base toppers, lace and weft base toppers and mono toppers.
Each serves a purpose but some people prefer one to another depending on their individual needs.
The silk base topper is a fully hand tied topper (hair is hand knotted by a human being) that has a layer of silk type fabric that looks like scalp. It is an excellent choice for someone who wants the most realistic finish even up close. These bases often have a PU strip around the edge so you can choose to glue/tape down if needed.
The silk and weft base toppers offer the silk area as mentioned above, but also has weft (strips of hair) sewn to the outer edge to make a higher density piece. These toppers almost always have a lace front, designed to be worn up to the hairline and glued/taped down for the most seamless finish.
Silk and lace base toppers are a combination of benefits of both silk (scalp effect) and lace (lightweight breathability). You can move the part a little if you wish, but do not have as much parting freedom as with a full silk or a silk and weft base.
The lace and weft base toppers are designed to be lightweight and breathable, keeping costs down by adding weft to make up more density. These are a great introductory choice and have been very popular in salons with ladies new to toppers who do not want to feel like they're wearing anything at all
Monofilament toppers are excellent for women who do not want a part line at all. The hair is hand tied though monofilament mesh and can be moved about as you prefer. No scalp fabric on this piece.
All of these options can be worn right up to the hairline.
Can I have a fringe?
Some of our toppers come with a fringe but some will need a fringe to be cut in. Your hairdresser may be able to do this for you but if not we can arrange this. Please note adding a fringe is a customisation and will make the topper non refundable so it may be best to make sure you like the topper first and then arrange for the fringe to be cut in.

How do I move the parting?
Most of our toppers are "free part" also called "universal part". This means you can move the hair around to suit you.
Please look for "free part" in the topper details.
To move the part all you need to do is wet the hair and comb into place. Ideally then leave to air dry naturally but the toppers can be blow dried if you are short on time (always use a heat protection spray)
